This year we have helped more than 100 dogs and puppies find wonderful “forever” homes. We also sent and even larger number to rescues in Pennsylvania and Virginia. Sadly, we have also said goodbye to three of our beloved senior dogs as the passed over the Rainbow Bridge. Fortunately, thirteen-year-old White Sox and twelve-year-old Candi had found foster homes a few weeks prior to their final days. But sweet Stella, a thirteen-year-old border collie, passed peacefully at our shelter. We wish that they could have all spent their final years, not just weeks, in calm and loving homes.
Puppies, kittens and young dogs find homes quickly, while older animals wait in shelters for years. When you are ready to adopt, please consider the senior dogs and cats forced to spend their twilight days in a noisy and crowded shelter. Bring them into your heart and home and they will forever be grateful. You will find that there is nothing more rewarding than the love of a senior pet.
