Many rescue groups are now requesting pre-transport vetting for the animals they get from our shelter. While we're happy to help get these animals vetted, it's not always easy to do here in Barbour County. Believe it or not, we don't have a full-time vet in our county. If we need to take an animal to Dr. Flesher in Buckhannon, we're talking about a 50 mile round trip. And with so few volunteers, it can be difficult to find someone to make a vet run on short notice.
We would ask you to make your vetting arrangements as soon as possible -- and to please try to get appointments with vets in Barbour County. Below is a list of the vets in our area and their phone numbers. As it stands now, we're agreeable to your calling the vet and setting a date and time for the service you need. At the time you make the appointment, we ask that you also provide your credit card number to the vet for payment purposes. Finances are quite tight for us at this time, so we will have to verify that you have made payment arrangements prior to our transporting the animal to the vet. Let Joy know the date and time of the appointment (by e-mail at: [email protected], or by phone at: (304) 457-3734. and we will make every effort to get the animal to the vet. If we run into a conflict, we will reschedule the appointment and let you know of the change. As long as we know well enough in advance, this system should work for everyone.
In the case of last minute vetting requests, we will try our best to obtain the services you need, but please understand that the cost may be higher than what you've paid in the past for the same service.
If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please feel free to discuss them with Joy. We appreciate everything our rescue groups do to save our animals and we are always open to discussion on all aspects of the rescue procedure.
